As the Creative Lead at PayMongo, I had the chance to drive the creative process for launching PayMongo’s latest financial solution. This case study dives into my role in the launch, the obstacles we faced, the strategies we put in place, and the impressive results we achieved.
Who is PayMongo?
PayMongo is an end-to-end financial solutions provider in the Philippines and is one of the top fintech companies backed by Y-Combinator (YC S19).
About PayMongo Capital
Flexible Financing is a fully digital loan program offered by GoTyme Bank for PayMongo merchants. Merchants who qualify for Flexible Financing will receive their financing in 1 business day.
Challenges
Launching PayMongo Capital presented several significant challenges:
Dual Launch Requirements
We had to coordinate the product launch within the company for our team, partners, and eligible merchants, and then introduce it to the public.
Lack of Established Information
No existing information or framework existed for how PayMongo Capital would work.
Partner Approvals
Partnering with GoTyme Bank involved regularly aligning and getting the go-ahead for all our materials and communications.
Tight Timelines for External Launch
We had only one month to plan and execute the external product launch event.
Complex Stakeholder Management
It was key to coordinate with internal teams, my creative team, and external stakeholders to ensure all creative mediums effectively supported the product launch.
Solutions
To overcome these challenges, we implemented a series of strategic solutions:
Internal Launch Focus
We focused on the internal launch to confirm product details and ensure our team was fully informed and on the same page.
Regular Cadence Meetings
I attended weekly meetings with both internal and external teams to talk about merchant needs, product highlights, and handle creative aspects and budgets for the external launch event. As we got closer to launch, we bumped these up to twice a week — once for the internal launch and once for the external event — to ensure everything was well-prepared and approved by GoTyme.
Effective Landing Page
I designed and developed a landing page with detailed product information and compelling selling points, informed by A/B testing results.
Branding Development
Even though there was an existing product icon, its branding wasn’t quite distinct. I came up with a cohesive branding strategy that fused PayMongo and GoTyme elements into a unified color palette, while also maintaining PayMongo’s design imagery.
Division of Labor
For the external product launch, I assigned tasks to my creative team. Given their urgency and need for direct approval, I handled the print materials myself. Meanwhile, my teammates concentrated on digital invites, presentation decks, and an explainer video for the event.
Efficient Print Material Production & QA
Taking charge of the print material design myself streamlined the approval process with GoTyme, reducing delays. I prioritized releasing these materials promptly, giving the print supplier ample time for mass production, quality inspections, and any necessary revisions in our preparation timeline.
Results
The launch of PayMongo Capital was a resounding success, achieving several key outcomes:
Media Coverage
The product launch received significant coverage in local news outlets, boosting visibility and credibility.
Strengthened Partnership
The successful collaboration on this project fortified our partnership with GoTyme Bank, benefiting both brands.
Accessible Product Information
By providing clear and accessible information about PayMongo Capital, we set the stage for continuous marketing efforts and materials following the initial launch.
